Deacons

We believe that God has ordained the office of deacon to oversee the ministry of the physical needs of the body and the day to day operations of the church. We believe they are to serve as co-laborers with the elders in the work of the ministry and be gifted in such a manner as to provide wisdom and mercy in attending to the ministry of the needs of the flock. We believe that these men must meet the qualifications of the office as set forth in Scripture. The deacons shall consist of members possessing the qualifications described in Titus.

Brian Rawlings

Deacon

brinspect@kc.rr.com

Brian and Susan Rawlings have been married for 33 years. Brian was saved in 1981 and his life was changed immediately. Although he had attended church and Sunday school diligently while growing up, Brian did not fully receive Jesus until he was called in 1981. He and Susan attended different churches for a number of years; however, they did not feel they were being fed. In the early 1990’s their search led them to a church where Pastor Fred Juhnke was preaching. They immediately felt at home and began attending regularly.

Brian began to understand what they had been missing from God’s Word. When Faith Community Church was formed, Brian and Susan became charter members. They have grown in the Word and continue to grow every day under Pastor Tim’s teaching and preaching, and from other teachers at FCC. Brian began ushering and Susan started making the coffee every Sunday in the early months at FCC. For the past 10 years Brian has overseen the usher ministry that’s so vital to FCC.

Steve Goertzen

Deacon

In 1971, I was born into my pastor’s family. I am the fourth of five children raised in Hutchinson, Kansas. After high school graduation, I drove myself to southern California to attend The Masters College. After the first year the Master had taken all my money, so I tried Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama where my older siblings had attended. Southeastern was not a good fit! I returned to Hutchinson to attend junior college with the University of Kansas in my sights.

At KU, my goal was still to be in full-time Christian work, but during my summer job on a custom harvest crew, I realized that God had not given me the desire for full-time Christian service. Previously I had seen the ministry as just a job and I did not have the desire for the lost. There are many in my family that were (and are) in full-time ministry and I was looking at it as carrying on the family business. At that point in my life I would have been a fraud behind a pulpit. “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two- edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of the soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

Upon graduation from the Harvard on the Kaw, I moved to Kansas City to find work. I started in entry level sales, met my wife and moved to Joplin. I didn’t sell anything in Joplin so we moved back to Kansas City where I joined a startup wood fiber recycling company. I spent 10 years grinding trees; added two children; and served as deacon and AWANA commander at Mission Road Bible Church. I am now the Operations Manager and lead SWPPP Inspector at a small erosion control company in Liberty.
