Elders

The elders of Faith Community Church believe very strongly that they have a solemn mandate to “shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28). The men affirmed and appointed to this position have been examined according to the Biblical standards found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 and have been judged worthy. We believe that this plurality of godly men to lead our church is a hopeful evidence of God’s continuing mercies toward us that we may remain faithful and fruitful in the Gospel ministry.

Brent Evers

Elder

brentevers@aol.com

Brent Evers was born and raised in the Kansas City area. He heard the gospel as a high school student and accepted it intellectually. He thought he was a Christian, but wasn’t converted to Christ until God humbled him while in dental school. To be crucified with Christ and to no longer live for self was his only response to having his eyes opened to the light of the glory of the gospel of Christ.

Brent was married to Cari in 1992 and the Lord has blessed them with three children: Malory, Reid & Courtney. Brent and Cari had a passion for evangelism and were involved with “seeker” churches for several years early in their marriage. But through a series of events, their eyes were opened to a higher view of God’s sovereignty, particularly in the area of salvation. They started attending Faith Community Church in 2003 and have been blessed by the teaching, the fellowship, and the reverence for Christ and His word in this body of Christ. Brent helps oversee the Fellowship Group Ministry and is an integral part of Faith Christian Academy.

Alan Gomer

Elder

Alan grew up in the Kansas City area and has been exposed to the gospel virtually all of his life. By God’s grace, he came to a realization of his sinfulness and need for a Savior at a young age. He repented of his sins and placed his entire faith in the crucified and risen Lord, Jesus Christ. As he matured in his faith and walk with God, Alan sensed a call to ministry service in some capacity. He completed a B.A. in Bible with a minor in Ancient Languages as well as a M.A. in Theology at Bob Jones University.

It was during this phase of life that Alan embraced Reformed theology and a more robust grasp of the gospel and a deeper love for the church. Upon moving back home to Kansas City, Alan completed the M. Div degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Upon returning to Kansas City, Alan and his wife, Sarah, initially attended Faith Community Church before ministry opportunities led them elsewhere. Alan took part in a pastoral internship at Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs. He had many preaching and teaching opportunities, had the opportunity to attend all of the leadership meetings of the church, and took part in many ministry conversations with the pastor, Doug Richey.

As the capstone of that internship, Alan was ordained to the gospel ministry in January 2013, a process which Pastor Tim took part in. Alan and Sarah returned to FCC in 2013 and have been serving joyfully in various capacities within the church, including teaching and preaching opportunities (for Alan). Alan has also taught Bible and Christian Worldview classes at FCA since 2013. Alan and Sarah have been married since 2004 and have three children, Makenna, Korban, and Owen.

Kevin Bush

I was born and raised here in the Kansas City area. I was brought up in a Christian home where the Word of God was always held high. Although the Lord saved me at a young age, God has continually deepened my knowledge and love for His Gospel through the years. He has faithfully led, disciplined, and kept me in His grasp.

After high school I attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri to pursue a degree in Intercultural Studies and Bible. While in Springfield I met my beautiful wife Sarah. We have 5 amazing children and have our first grandchild on the way. After graduating from BBC we moved to Oklahoma in order for me to attend flight school with the goal of becoming a pilot for a missions organization. God had other plans. Just before finishing up my final ratings, the school filed for bankruptcy and closed its doors. Overnight my family and I were left with no direction and no job.

After a few prayers we decided to pack our bags and move back to Kansas City so I could be near my closest friend and spiritual mentor, my Dad, during this season of loss. We thought KC was just a pit stop. That was also not the Father’s plan. He brought us to Faith Community Church 11 years ago and has tightly knit our lives to this incredible body of believers.

I have served as a small group leader for 10 years, been on the Missions Committee for 9 years, and have enjoyed the opportunity to teach and train in various capacities during our time here at Faith. The Father has put a deep passion within me to uphold His Truth and love His people in the Truth. Through this growing love, my desire has continued to increase for shepherding, serving, leading, and protecting my brothers and sisters in Christ. The decision to move forward with eldership is something I have been praying through for many years and take extremely seriously. I am just a man, but with Christ’s strength I will strive to use my life as a vessel of His grace to be poured out here at FCC.

Jason Dawson

jason@faithcommunity.com

I have a prodigal story, where I was raised in a Baptist home but I left Christianity in my teen years coming to the end of myself in my early twenties when Christ opened my eyes, regenerated my heart, and transformed my life. I have put my faith in Christ since that time and my life has never been the same.

I have been a member of Faith Community Church since 2004. I have participated in street evangelism, the Anchor House ministries, led small group ministries and facilitated Men’s retreats at FCC for a number of years. I left FCC for a short time at the end of 2009 to plant a church in the inner-city of Kansas City. I served as Lead church planter until 2015 when I turned the church plant over to a recently graduated seminary student and then we returned to Faith Community Church.

Since our return we have helped with two primary areas of ministry leadership; Fellowship Group ministries and specifically with Media and Technology. I hold some MDIV courses from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary but I also hold a Masters of Computer Information Systems Management from Webster’s University. I have worked at Sprint, The Federal Reserve, and is now currently working at DST Systems in downtown Kansas City.

I have a passion to continue to serve the Lord in three primary ways; first by shepherding well those entrusted to him in ministry. Secondly, by helping Faith Community Church use the technology as a means to encourage and build up the body of Christ and lastly by using the means of technology to make Christ known to the world.
